The State of Michigan passed School Board election law reform in November 2011, which requires that School Board elections be held during the general elections in November of even numbered years. This is in line with presidential and governor elections. This is a School Board election year; the election date is Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The school district will have four 4-year terms that candidates can run for.

You may run for the school board trustee position if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A registered voter
  • A citizen of the USA
  • A resident of the state of Michigan for at least 30 days
  • A resident of the Livonia Public Schools School District on or before the 30th day prior to the date  of the election

The Wayne County Clerk’s office has designated the City of Livonia as the location for filing a petition or candidate fee for the Livonia School Board election. Candidates must file an Affidavit of Identity, and either a nonpartisan nominating petition or a non-refundable fee by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Failure to file by this deadline will bar the candidate from appearing on the ballot. A $100.00 non-refundable fee may be filed in lieu of a petition. Filing packets include the nomination petition and can be picked up at the City Clerk's Office.
