1. Welcome back!!!
8/20/2011 Greetings to all! I hope everyone has had a restful and enjoyable summer! Students it's time to get those instruments ready for the school year. Make sure that all of your keys, valves, strings, bow hairs, and sticks are all in working order. If you are not sure, make sure you take it to a professional shop to make sure your instrument is in optimal condition and ready for the year. String players, if you haven't had your strings changed in over a year, now is the time to do that. Check for any cracks or open seams. Woodwind players, make sure you stock up on reeds for year. Always keep 2-4 reeds on you at all times and you are rotating them after each use. Brass players check your valves to make sure they are clean and oiled. Make sure the slides are smooth and clean. Percussionists, make sure that your sticks have your names on them and are in good condition. Make sure that you are checking the website at least once a week for any news, updates, handouts, links, and other information that will keep informed. We have many performance opportunities this year that I am very excited about. Make sure you have a copy of the performance calendar somewhere the family can keep track of and plan your performance dates accordingly. Our performances start at 7:00 p.m. and have a 6:15 p.m. call time unless otherwise told. Make sure that you have reviewed our concert dress code for the program. It can be reviewed in the band and orchestra handbook. We strive for excellence and present ourselves as professionals. We do not wear street clothes on stage for performances (t-shirts, jeans, shorts, tennis shoes). We have many events that require parent help, if you are a parent that is able to help out for events, please contact Michael Rais at: mrais@livoniapublicschools.org I am looking forward to a wonderful musical year! Musically Yours,
Michael J. Rais Band & Orchestra Director
