Mr. Mestdagh

The 2022-2023 school year will be my 18th year of teaching and my first at Stevenson High School since the 2010-2011 school year.  Previously, I spent 11 years at Franklin High School, in addition to multiple semesters split between Stevenson High School, Churchill High School, and Frost Middle School.  Before that, I taught at Millbrook High School (Raleigh, NC) and Harper Creek High School (Battle Creek, MI).  I am looking forward to another year of AP Government, as well as Economics.  I grew up in Homer, Michigan and graduated from Homer High School, with a graduating class of 50.  In 2003, I received two bachelor's degrees from the University of Michigan--one in Education and one in Sports Management and Communications.  Later I earned a master's degree in K-12 Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Beyond my teaching duties, I am the social studies department chair, the freshman class advisor, and previously I coached track, cross country, and both boys and girls basketball at Frost and Emerson Middle Schools.

Outside of the classroom, I love to spend time with my family.  My eldest daughter is in fourth grade this year and my youngest daughter is in first grade.  My wife is a media literacy specialist in West Bloomfield.  As a family we love to travel, cheer on UofM and Detroit sport teams, and read books.
