Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Cannell

Hi!  I am Lisa Cannell.  This is my 30th year of teaching!  I have taught 3rd grade for nine years at Hoover Elementary.  Prior to teaching third grade, I was a Learning Specialist at Marshall and Hoover schools, providing students with specialized academic support.  I also taught first grade for many years.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University and a special reading certification from Western Michigan University.  Sorry Spartans, I am a die-hard Wolverine!

I am married and have two teenaged children.  I don't have a lot of time for hobbies, but I enjoy nature walks, swimming laps, eating Italian food and hanging out with my family.  At school, I serve on various committees, but I take special pride being part of the school Eco Action team which has helped Hoover to achieve the highest level Eco School status with the National Wildlife Federation - the Green Flag.  This achievement is a perfect example of how the Hoover community works together to achieve great things!

Educational Philosophy

From many years of experience teaching, it is very clear to me that kids need to feel physically and emotionally safe in order to learn academics at their maximum potential.  I always work hard to honor the kids as individuals and to set goals that work toward achieving everyone's "personal best".  When the kids' self esteem as learners is strong, we can make great progress.

Third graders are transitioning from being early elementary students to intermediate students. They begin to learn more abstract concepts, become more independent and their social skills become more sophisticated.  It is truly exciting to be a part of this amazing developmental transition.

Communication

Communicating with you is important to me.  I try to respond to communications the same day I receive them.  This may be during after-school hours.  The best way to contact me is through school email  lcannell@livoniapublicschools.org.  I check email several times a day.

All issues that require an immediate response during the school-day (i.e. changes in after-school plans, etc.) require a call to the school office at 734-744-2730.  Speak directly with office staff.

Classroom news will be communicated through email.
Classroom newsletters will go home in mass emails.  The email addresses will be those that you have shared with Livonia Public Schools.  If you would like an email address removed or added to our Classroom News group email, please let me know.  Thanks!
