Updates from Mr. Green

  • Roosevelt Elementary School Week of May 31 2020

Posted by WILLIAM GREEN on 5/31/2020

    Good morning Roosevelt families,

I grew up when the Space Shuttle was making history.  It was amazing and emotional for me yesterday to see the first launch in nine years of two NASA Astronauts on SpaceX.  Their voyage to the International Space Station in a new type of rocket and process reminds us of our creativity, ingenuity, and promise as a people. It gives me hope and confidence in our current Pandemic crisis and the belief that we will find solutions for this crisis and other important issues that currently grasp our communities.

Don't forget to check out our 4th grade students reciting the Pledge of Allegiance through FlipGrid this year instead of on morning announcements. What a fantastic job they are doing!  You can see their patriotic efforts at

Week 6 of virtual learning continues this week! One more week to go; we can do it!  Please do all you can to stay connected with your teacher's online lessons and classroom virtual community.

Please do not hesitate to contact our staff should you have any questions or concerns.

Our final birthday lunch of the year will take place this Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 12:00 p.m.  I had to change it from Friday due to a conflict.

Our final PTA meeting of the year will be held virtually on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.  The invite for the meeting is below.  As I have mentioned in previous emails, we have amazing PTA Board members moving on to a new school next year.  Under Tara Moeller and Amy Cashin's leadership along with Jenn Wieser and Nancy Warner our PTA is a big part of our Roosevelt Community.  We will miss them!  Our new PTA Board along with returning member Deanna Busse will be part of this week's meeting.

We are reaching out to our incoming Kindergarten families in order to host a Virtual Kindergarten Meet and Greet this week. Normally we would have you join us at Roosevelt Elementary for Kindergarten Roundup to meet your students and tell you more about our school, curriculum, and programs.  Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic and Stay-at-Home order that won't be possible at this time. Our goal is to provide an in-person Kindergarten Roundup prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Our two virtual Kindergarten Meet and Greet opportunities will take place on June 4, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m.  At this meeting we will touch base virtually with you, review our Kindergarten Frequently Asked Questions and inform you of a Roosevelt Kindergarten information survey to complete.

Finally, we would love it at the end of our meeting if you could have your child come on the screen to say HI!  We are excited to meet our future Kindergarten students.

Please pick the meeting link that works for you and we hope to see you on Thursday, June 4! 9:30 a.m. 6:30 p.m.

Please see the attached document which highlights our process for student pickup of materials during the last week of school.  Please contact me if you have any questions.  If you have personal items to drop off to teachers, you can give them to the runners on the assigned dates or contact your child's teacher to make other arrangements.

We are soon starting the process of making classroom assignments for next year.  I want to remind families of the process we use at Roosevelt when forming classroom assignments for the following year. Please understand that many hours of discussion, review, and collaboration go into the creation of classes and teacher placement.  Plans for staffing and grade level teaching assignments follow a process that I would like to outline below.

Classroom teachers and I create class lists with input as applicable from our support staff.

Staff attempts to create well-balanced classrooms. Information such as students' ability levels, district-benchmark results, behavior and learning patterns, peer relations, gender, and any other special learning needs may be used when developing class lists.

Staffing is not finalized until school opens in the fall. This includes how many and which teachers are assigned to our school and to which grade level they will be assigned. We do make tentative staffing plans and assignments in May/June, but these are not finalized until late August.

At times, parents may want to provide additional placement input for our staff to consider.   Placement Consideration Forms are available upon request from either Mr. Green or Mrs. Pac.    All forms are due back to Mrs. Pac by Friday, June 5.  Please note placement considerations do not mean a request for a certain teacher!

Pass the word--online registration is open for next year is open. Please click here Roosevelt Registration  to fill out the form. Once the online form is completed expect a call from our secretary, Mrs. Pac with further instructions.

As mentioned above, this is the time of year we begin to start our preliminary staffing for the 2020-2021 school year.  If your family will not be attending Roosevelt Elementary School next year, please email Mrs. Pac at with details.

On Friday, June 5 virtual field day will be posted in the Roosevelt Specials Google classroom. Students and families are encouraged to participate in activities at home.

Students, it's not too late to submit and event. Send your idea to Ms. Plum by Wednesday 6/3.
