    Good Morning Roosevelt Tigers,

Please find an update regarding the Board of Education Meeting tonight and information about the i-Ready assessment scheduled for later this week. We will send our usual weekly update on Friday as well.

    Return to Learn Plan:

The Return to Learn Plan will be discussed at the Board of Education’s committee meeting, which is set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020. Please click on this link for additional information.

    i-Ready Diagnostic:

Beginning on September 23, 2020, your child’s teacher will be reaching out to families and students about taking the i-Ready Diagnostic at home.  Kindergarten will not be taking this assessment until later in the year. The test can be taken through October 6, 2020.  PLEASE do not have your child take the i-Ready Diagnostic until your classroom teacher has instructed them to do so.  On the left hand side will be teacher assigned lessons that they may continue to take at this time.  Students will be taught about the diagnostic during a live (synchronous) teaching session during this testing window of 9/23-10/6.

In years past, students took this assessment at school. Please note the assessment is adaptive and is designed to challenge your child.

    What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, correct answers will result in more difficult questions, while incorrect answers will yield easier questions. Because of this, your student will end up encountering questions that are too difficult for them to answer.  We know it is very difficult to watch your student struggle when they don’t know the answer.  Please do your best to encourage WITHOUT helping them get the answer.

The data that is collected from this diagnostic is used to help us determine which students will require additional support during our intervention blocks.  It is important that we receive the most accurate picture of your students current abilities.  We encourage their best effort.  Their diagnostic results will be available at the end of the test.  A parent sheet with this information, will be sent home with the students when they return to school.  Virtual students will receive their assessment data at a later scheduled time confirmed by their classroom teachers. Click here for additional information.

    Have a TERRIFIC week!

    Library Program:

During the summer, the Livonia Public Schools media specialists reached out to the Livonia Public Library to form a collaboration so that all Livonia Public Schools students have the opportunity to receive a Public Library Card!

It is simple - you only need to fill out a single Google Form! With this library card, students will have access to ebooks, audiobooks and more that they can access from a Chromebook, a desktop or laptop, or through an app on a phone or other mobile device. Students may also have access to the curbside pick-up services for physical books. The public librarians will send an email with your student’s library card number to your student’s LPS email. Due to the volume of requests from LPS students, they’ve asked that you please allow up to one week to receive your confirmation email.

You can view the form here and complete it now. You only need to fill it out once per student. We ask that if your student already has a library card, you still fill out the form so that we know which of our students have access to these resources. Please have your student(s) watch the video with you - they can meet the Livonia public librarians!
