Ms. Fisher

Welcome to fourth grade. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year, and I believe that your child will not only learn a great deal, but will also really enjoy himself/herself in the process.

Because I will be spending so much time with your child this year, I think that it is important that you learn a little more about me. I grew up in Detroit (first 8 years), as well as in Marlette, a small, rural own located in the heart of the thumb.  My mother was an elementary teacher and my father was a police officer and horse trainer with the Detroit Mounted Police. After graduating from Marlette High School, I attended Michigan State University. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and have minors in biology and English. I also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University. I have taught second, third, and fourth grade over the last twenty ffive years.  I am absolutely thrilled to be working with all the wonderful students, parents, and teachers at Hayes Elementary.   In addition to being a teacher, I have written/illustrated five children’s picture books (though I haven’t really focused too much on that career in the last few years).

I currently reside in Milford.  My daughter, Sofanit, graduated from Michigan State University and resides in Minnesota, and my son, Samson, is an eleventh grader at Milford High School.  When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, attending sporting events, and going to the movies.

It is essential to recognize that we have some very important goals in common: the happiness, confidence, and success of your child. Fourth grade is a great year to promote the joys of reading and to enforce work habits, organizational skills, and routines that foster academic achievement. By working together, we can help your child blossom in so many ways this year!

Warm Regards,

Ms. Colleen Fisher
