The Colaizzi Classroom 2023-24
Welcome back to school! My name is Kimberly Colaizzi and I am so happy to be your child’s teacher this year. I have taught special education in Livonia for the past 27 years. I am very excited to start my 28th year. This is our program's third year at Frost Middle School and I LOVE it! Frost is definitely a family. I am so excited to welcome back two wonderful paraprofessionals to our classroom this year, Mrs. Jessica Ulmer and Mrs. Amy Rico. I am also thrilled to be co-mentoring Charlene Phillips, from Central Michigan, during her student teaching assignment at Frost. She attended Frost Middle School herself, and is excited to return as a student teacher.
I am a big believer in working together as a team, in the best interest of your child. Since you know your child best, I look forward to your input at any time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by note, phone/voicemail or by email. A weekly communication sheet will go home each night in your child’s folder. Please review and add any comments or questions. Please leave the sheet in the folder throughout the week. I will collect them each Monday and add a new sheet.
At Frost, your child will follow a modified general education curriculum called the Common Core Essential Elements. If at any time you have questions about the curriculum, please feel free to ask. During the first few weeks of school, we will be spending a great deal of time on classroom rules and routines, beginning of the year assessments, and getting to know each other. At Frost our motto is “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe”. All students that show they are being respectful, responsible, and safe by doing their best learning will receive “Falcon Dollars” throughout the day. Earning “Falcon Dollars” is a school-wide initiative. All students at Frost have the opportunity to earn dollars from all staff members in the building. At the end of the week, students will count up their dollars and have the opportunity to purchase an item or special opportunity from the Frost School PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) store. If you have any new items that you would like to donate to the class store, that would be much appreciated.
The Frost MoCI program currently has three classrooms this year. We are so excited to have Ms. Mary Butler join our Frost MoCI family. I am also so grateful to continue to team teach with Ms. Casey Loiselle. Students in all the classes will be switching between our three rooms throughout the day for various subjects.
This year we will have two elective classes. During the first semester, our class will be going to physical education for our second hour elective class. We will be going to computer technology during the second semester.
At the end of each day, students will be offered a quick afternoon snack. If you would like to send in a snack each day with your child, that would be great, especially if your child follows a specific diet (sugar free, gluten free, etc.) We purchase snacks with our own money, so If you would like to donate snack items to the classroom, we would certainly appreciate it (crackers, pretzels, animal crackers, etc.) Please let me know right away if your child has any food allergies or restrictions. At this time, all classrooms are NUT FREE Zones.
Items to be considered for back to school: (please label all items)
-Lunchbox (if your child brings a lunch)
-Water Bottle (with spill proof lid)
-Bathroom items (if your child needs them)
-Extra set of clothes to keep at school in a bag in their locker
If your child has any medical concerns and requires a health care plan or health alert plan, please let me know immediately. If your child takes medication at school, a medication authorization must be filled out. Please do not send medication on the bus or in a backpack, unless it has been approved and is part of a signed plan.
I look forward to working together toward an amazing school year!
