Parents

Welcome LPS parents/guardians/families!

Whether this is your first or fifteenth Individualized Education Program (IEP) for your student, we hope that you find the information in this packet helpful.  Our school district is pleased to invite you to participate in its Livonia Parent Advisory Committee (LPAC), as well as extend to you an invitation to participate in the larger Wayne County Parent Advisory Committee (WCPAC), which includes all 33 public school districts within Wayne County.

A Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is an opportunity for parents/guardians and district representatives to discuss special education policies, programs, and matters relating to the success of all students in our district.  The purpose of the PAC is to encourage informed parent contributions to discussions leading to decisions being made about special education programing. It is the district's purpose to promote a network of parents that have students with special needs to:

  • Provide a forum to share helpful information

  • Form parent/guardian-school partnerships that respond to the increasing needs of our diverse community

  • Inform parents/guardians as much as possible about their student’s special education services

  • Discuss a continuum of programming that meets the needs of all students with special needs

  • Create a positive understanding and awareness for students with disabilities in all of our schools

In addition, parents/guardians are encouraged to lead PAC discussions, which focus on programming, curriculum, IEP's, instructional materials, and special education law. Parents/guardians are also encouraged to ask questions, request guest speakers and/or training from community providers/services, and/or school personnel.

The LPAC meets quarterly from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Locations are TBD.  Each meeting will include an on-site Unified Event for your student to participate in while you attend the meeting. Unified Sports pair students with and without disabilities on the same team. Under the auspices of the Special Olympics, Unified Sports was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

The WCPAC meets on the second Thursday of the month, September through June, unless otherwise noted. The meetings are currently conducted via Zoom and start at 6:30p.m.   Please see https://bit.ly/3oqh16S for the most current meeting information.

We look forward to having you be a part of our parent advisory committee.
