Welcome to the Western Wayne Skill Center

  • Welcome to the Western Wayne Skill Center!  Our goal is to provide students with outstanding educational experiences designed to maximize skills and independence.  Our “in-house” classes include Life Skills for Home and Work, Culinary Arts, Horticulture, Micro-Business/School Store, Auto Detailing, Landscape Maintenance, and Woodworking.  These classes help students learn work skills in simulated work environments within the school setting.

We also offer a variety of Community Based Instruction, CBI, classes including Child Development at Jackson Center, Retail Services at Meijer, Civil Service Support at Livonia City Hall, Advanced Custodial at Madonna University, Community Work Experience (multiple locations), and Supported Transition Program (multiple locations). These courses afford students the opportunity to engage in work skills in actual work settings and we are grateful to our community partners for allowing us to use their place of business as our instructional environment.

The Western Wayne Skill Center also provides students with opportunities to learn more about physical fitness and nutrition as well as opportunities to learn more about leisure and recreation options that are aligned with their interests. Most students attend Fitness and or Leisure and Recreation on a daily basis for 30 minutes in the morning and for 30 minutes in the afternoon. Some students do not participate in Fitness and or Leisure and Recreation as a result of the nature of their assigned class. In these cases, teachers provide students with this instruction while in the community setting.

We proudly offer students a variety of fun activities including several school dances, an annual basketball tournament, a competitive basketball team that travels locally, and an annual Bowling Day. These events are very popular with students and our staff.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our program. I am very proud of our students and staff and I feel honored to serve this school community as principal. If I can be of assistance to you in any way, please contact me!
