Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to a new and exciting year at Johnson Upper Elementary School! All of our staff are ready and eager to make this a great year for you and your student.
My name is Gina Harris and I have taught kindergarten through eighth grade. I have a total of ten years in the classroom. This is my third year teaching fifth grade. I am married, and have two children. My son, Joey, is going into seventh grade and my daughter, Annabelle, is going into fourth grade. I am originally from Virginia and my husband is native to Michigan. My favorite place to be is the beach, and I am sure you will hear me talk about my favorite beach experiences throughout the year. I also enjoy working out, fishing, hanging out with my family and playing with our beagle.
We will be working on reading and writing fiction and nonfiction throughout the year. Word study will be spelling and vocabulary work. In math, we will be working with computation of both whole numbers, decimals and fractions as well as some geometry and graphs. We have three units in Science this year: Systems and Survival, Objects in the Sky and Forces in Motion. Social Studies will be taught by Mrs. Judy Polce. Fifth grade is a time of adjustment as the curriculum becomes more demanding and students are expected to take more responsibility for their learning. We are focused on helping our students to meet these demands and develop strategies to be successful.
Snack time will be in the morning. Snacks should be healthy: no cookies, candy or cakes.
If you need to contact me, my email or the remind app is the best way. I usually have most families uploaded in remind after the second week of school. I use this most often. You may also call the office and leave a message or send a note with your student.
I look forward to a challenging and successful year for all!
Mrs. Gina Harris
