Meet Mrs. Schocker

Thank you for your interest in my first grade classroom!  Let me take a moment to introduce myself.

I have worked for Livonia Public Schools for the past 20 years.  I have spent 19 of those years with first graders.  I have also taught second grade and several 1/2 combination classes.

I come from a family of teachers:

  • My mother lives in Ohio and taught at the University of Akron.
  • My father received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
  • My sister has taught many grades, but currently teaches a 3/4 combination class in Farmington.

I live in Livonia with my husband, Mike and my daughter, Emily.  Emily will turn 16 years old on Halloween. She will be an 11th grader at Stevenson High School. Emily is on the Varsity Pom Pon team and earned a co-captain position this year.  I can't wait to watch her perform on the football field this fall! Emily has also played on the Varsity Tennis team since her freshman year.

My hope as your child's teacher is to provide a challenging and personalized academic program that motivates, stimulates, and facilitates a love for learning.  An effective teacher understands how children differ in their development as well as their approach to learning and is able to adapt to meet the specific needs of children.

My goal as an educator is to design instruction that helps use students' strengths as the basis for their success.  In my classroom, students are valued for their uniqueness and they will learn to respect this in one another.  Through reassurance and love, I hope to guide children in their intellectual, emotional, and social growth.

I look forward to working with you and your child this year!
