The Colaizzi Classroom
Mrs. Kimberly Colaizzi
Emerson Middle School
My name is Kimberly Colaizzi and I am so happy to be your child’s teacher this year. I have taught special education in Livonia for the past 23 years and I am so excited to be starting my 24th year. This is my 5th year at Emerson Middle School and I will be working with two wonderful paraprofessionals, Michelle Salah and Laura Davison.
I am a big believer in working together as a team in the best interest of your child. Since you know your child best, I look forward to your input at anytime. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by note, voicemail or by email. A weekly communication sheet will go home each night in your child’s folder. Please review and add any comments or questions. Please leave the sheet in the folder throughout the week. I will collect them each Monday and add a new sheet for the week.
At Emerson, your child will follow a modified general education curriculum, called the Common Core Essential Elements. If at any time you have questions about the curriculum, please feel free to ask. During the first few weeks of school, we will be spending a great deal of time on classroom rules and routines, beginning of the year assessments, and getting to know each other. At Emerson the motto is “Soaring to Excellence with Respect, Responsibility, and Learning”. We have “I can” statements that incorporate these ideas posted in the classroom and talk about them daily. Students that show they are being respectful, responsible, and doing their best learning will receive “Colaizzi Cash” throughout the day. At the end of the week, students will count up their cash and have the opportunity to purchase an item or special opportunity from the class PBS (positive behavior supports) store. If you have any new or gently used items that you would like to donate to the class store, that would be wonderful.
I am so excited to continue to team teach this year with Ms. Casey Loiselle. Students in both classes will be switching between our two rooms throughout the day for various subjects. At the end of each day, students will be offered a quick afternoon snack. If you would like to send in a snack each day with your child, that would be great, especially if your child follows a specific diet (sugar free, gluten free, etc.) If you would like to donate snacks items to the classroom, we would certainly appreciate it (animal crackers, pretzels, cheese crackers, goldfish crackers, etc.)
