Welcome to Room 32

First Grade

Hi! I am Annette Garbutt. I look forward to working with you and your first grader. Before becoming a first grade teacher, I taught IT (Informational Technology) to LPS 5th graders at Cooper, Johnson and Webster. My husband and I are LPS graduates; our six children are all LPS graduates and our grandchildren will be LPS students. I believe LPS is a great place for an education!

In my free time I enjoy "crafting", baking, watching hockey and reading. I look forward to spending time with my family, especially sharing Sunday dinners. Conversations are interesting, food is abundant and everyone pitches in to help.

Please don't hesitate to contact me!

Our first grade is a ...
Mistake-making, laugher-sharing, independence-building, brain-stretching sort of place where EVERYONE MATTERS!  ©Growing Firsties

“Anyone who stops learning is old,

whether at twenty or eighty.

Anyone who keeps learning stays young.”

Volunteers and Chaperones

We love volunteers and chaperones... One important step before signing up to serve in some way is to complete the necessary security check for ALL volunteers and chaperones.

Lunch in September -- Universal Free Meals Discontinued

Lunch is a wonderful and fun part of a student's day. When packing lunch for your child/ren, please keep in mind some lunch packaging may be more challenging for them to open. We have a team of "expert" lunch openers who've mastered the most challenging of vacuum-sealed thermoses, lunchables, and have pierced their fair share of juice boxes without losing a single drop!

We will focus heavily on routines and expectations. Some expectations we teach are:

  • Leave a clean table, bench and floor
  • Be patient in line
  • Use an indoor voice
  • Say please and thank you
