Mrs. Teressa Michalski

Hello, Jayhawk Families! I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Teressa Michalski and I am the Title I Interventionist at Johnson Upper Elementary. My husband John and I have been married for 30 years and we have two children. Jack is a mechanical engineer with GM and Mara is a nurse at Naples Community Hospital. We also have a three-year-old red lab named Ruby. Our happy places include our cottage on Lake Lancer in Gladwin, MI and Marco Island, FL. We enjoy boating, kayaking, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.

I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from John Carroll University and my masters degree in Early Childhood education from Eastern Michigan University. I have spent my entire adult life in education. I taught for ten years at Jane Addams Elementary in South Redford, ten years at the Walled Lake Outdoor Education Center, and am beginning my tenth year here at Johnson. Each experience has been wonderful and rewarding!

I work alongside our Learning Specialist and classroom teachers to identify and support those students who need extra support, primarily in literacy and/or math.   We use assessments, formal and informal observations, and previous test scores as a means of identifying students that would benefit most from small group instruction. These small groups would then target specific concept areas and skills.  Seeing as all students learn differently, we will use various learning strategies and techniques within our groups. We strive to provide an engaging, exciting, and successful  learning environment for our Jayhawks. If we feel your child would benefit from Title I services or Learning Specialist support, we will notify you.  You will always have the opportunity to discuss these services with us prior to the start of the intervention.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.  I'm looking forward to a fantastic year at Johnson!
