Degrees and Certifications:
My name is Sherry Juncaj. I am extremely fortunate to be a part of the Riley Upper Elementary community! As the Learning Specialist, I provide interventions to students who are not meeting grade level expectations in reading or math. My primary focus is to help students improve their academic skills. I work closely with classroom teachers to determine students' skills and develop interventions to meet their needs.
I began my teaching career with LPS in 1996. I have taught first and fifth grades. I truly enjoyed being a classroom teacher, but my passion for helping struggling readers led me to Reading Recovery and my current role - which I absolutely love!
I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in 1996. In 2000, I completed the requirements for a Master's degree in reading from Western Michigan University. Shortly after, I received a Reading Specialist endorsement. In 2007, I completed Reading Recovery® training at Oakland University. In 2017, I received an Education Specialist degree from Oakland University. In 2019, I was awarded a Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership from Oakland University. Being a lifelong learner is extremely important to me.
I love spending time with my family! I have a wonderful husband and three amazing adult children. This March we welcomed our grandson, Noah, into our family. He is absolutely precious! We also have a granddog named Daisy. Saying she's spoiled is an understatement. During my spare time, I love to read! I read all types of books, but my favorite genre is Historical Fiction.
