Full Day Young Fives Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year now open!

What is Young Fives Kindergarten?

Young Fives Kindergarten is a full-day program that offers children who are currently four years old and will turn age five between July 1st and December 1st, the chance to develop school readiness skills. Young Fives Kindergarten bridges the gaps between Pre-K and Kindergarten to help ensure that children are developmentally ready across all domains and not just the traditional school readiness skills. This means that there is an intentional focus on social and emotional development and giving children the opportunity to develop organically through play and exploration. Young Fives Kindergarten, followed by a year of Kindergarten, gives children the opportunity to develop and learn over a longer range of time. Young Fives Kindergarten offers children a chance to:

  • Develop socially and emotionally while building academic skills
  • Develop independence and self-regulation skills alongside academic skills
  • Interact with the curriculum and build skills at a slower pace
  • Become confident communicators and build vital social skills

The Young Fives Kindergarten program is tuition-free and staffed by Livonia Public School educators. Participation in Young Fives Kindergarten is by parental choice, but research is clear that for many of our youngest learners this is the best pathway to beginning their elementary school experience. LPS Young Fives Kindergarten is the first year of a two-year kindergarten experience. Children will go to traditional kindergarten after completing Young Fives Kindergarten. Again, the goal of this program is to improve the Kindergarten readiness skills of children and it is specifically designed for students who need the gift of extra time to further develop their emotional, social, physical, cognitive, and creative skills.

How to Register for Young Fives Kindergarten

kindergarten

Registration for Young Fives begins March 1, 2024.  Registration information will be available on our district homepage and each elementary school’s website. The 2024-2025 school year will be the first year of implementation to a full day and elementary school-based setting for Young Fives Kindergarten so there will be a cap of how many students we will accept into our Young Fives Kindergarten program.  If applications exceed the number of spaces available, preference will first be given to the youngest eligible children and then, if necessary, we will hold a lottery to determine who gets additional spots.

Young Fives Kindergarten can provide a strong foundation for children as they begin their educational journey with Livonia Public Schools. We thank you for your interest.
