The Livonia Public Schools School Board is committed to working together for the best interests of the students and families of Livonia Public Schools.  All Board members are MASB certified, thereby achieving the Standard of Excellence Whole Board Award.

Karen Bradford

Karen Bradford was elected to the Board in November 2016 and reelected in 2020. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and a Master of Arts degree in Reading from Eastern Michigan University. She worked part-time as a substitute teacher and also worked as an ACAT tester at Webster Elementary. Karen is the proud parent of four LPS graduates and was very active in the PTA, having served as past president of Hoover, Holmes, and Stevenson in addition to many other PTA/PTSA board positions. She also served on the District School Improvement Team and the LPS Return to Learn Task Force, and currently serves on the LPS Vision Forward Team. Karen is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Master Board Member Award.

Mark Johnson was elected to the Board in June of 2010, and reelected in 2014, 2018, and 2022. He is a graduate of Livonia Bentley High School and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance degree from the University of Toledo and a Juris Doctor Cum Laude from the Detroit College of Law. Mark is the parent of two former LPS students. He previously served on the District School Improvement Team and currently serves on the LPS Education Foundation Board of Directors.  He is now retired, after 35 years as a trial lawyer. Mark is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Master Diamond Award.

Madeline Acosta was elected to the Board in November 2020. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan, a second Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Wayne State University, and completed coursework towards a Master of Arts in Teaching. Madeline previously worked in Southwest Detroit as a Bilingual Educational Technician, Special Education Teacher, and Homeless and Community Liaison. Until her election, Madeline served as a long-term substitute teacher for Livonia Public Schools. Her volunteerism extends from various PTA roles to the Return to Learn Task Force. Madeline currently serves on the LPS Vision Forward Team.  She and her husband, Nico, are proudly raising two sons who attend LPS. Madeline is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Award of Distinction.

Tammy Bonifield was elected to the Board in November 2012 and reelected in 2016 and 2020. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Michigan Technological University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Tammy works as an accountant for a Northville firm. Tammy is the treasurer of the Livonia AM Rotary and held several leadership positions with her sons' Boy Scout troop. She has two children who are graduates of LPS. Tammy has held numerous PTA board positions, and has served on the Elementary Report Card Task Force, District School Improvement Team, and the Taylor-Hoover Transition Team. Tammy is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Master Board Member Award.

Colleen Burton was elected to the Board in November of 2009 and reelected in 2014, 2018, and 2022. She is a graduate of Livonia Bentley High School and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Harding University. Colleen is the parent of three LPS graduates. She currently works as a sales assistant. She has served as a member of the District School Improvement Team; PTA President, Treasurer, and Membership Chairperson; and Stevenson Booster Club School Beautification Chairperson. Colleen is currently a member of the LPS Vision Forward Team.  She is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Master Diamond Award.

Crystal Frank was appointed to the Board on March 6, 2023.  She was elected to the Board for a four-year term from 2017-2020.  Crystal graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Communication and went on to take various positions at Ford Motor Company before serving as the Customer Service Manager at a large Ford dealership.  Crystal and her husband, Lucas, have 4 children who have attended 10 different LPS schools, in both the Stevenson and Churchill triads.  She has been involved in LPS for many years as an active volunteer in the PTA, Athletics, Music, and Robotics programs in our district.  She served as PTA/PTSA President at Webster and Frost, and currently serves as the President of Churchill High School’s PTSA.  Crystal is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Award of Merit.

Liz Jarvis was elected to the Board in 2014 and reelected in 2018 and 2022. She holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art, with an emphasis in Graphic Design, from Michigan State University. Liz works as a calligrapher by commission. She is the parent of three LPS graduates. She served on the District School Improvement team and the Livonia PTSA Council, and currently serves on the LPS Education Foundation Board of Directors. She is a big cheerleader for our Livonia FIRST Robotics Teams. Liz is certified by the Michigan Association of School Boards and has achieved the MASB Award of Distinction and the Data Skills Specialty Award.
