  • LPS Chromebook Returns

Posted by Ann BeBeau on 5/13/2021 12:00:00 PM
To our SHS students and parents from our Media Specialist:
Did you check out and take home a Livonia Public Schools’ Chromebook during the COVID pandemic? If so, you are to return it by the end of THIS school year. If you are still using the Chromebook for academics, then you may continue to use it up until your last day of class. However, if the Chromebook is sitting at home unused, then please turn in both the Chromebook AND THE CHARGING CORD at either of the Chromebook Collection events scheduled in the Stevenson LMC on Tuesday, May 18, and Friday, May 21 from 8:00 AM - 2:15 PM.
All seniors are expected to return the checked-out Chromebooks by Wednesday, May 26.
If you have any questions or concerns, please see Mrs. BeBeau in the LMC.
    Thank you.

  • Pause for LCTC In-person Learning

Posted by SHS Administration on 4/20/2021 5:00:00 PM

    Dear Spartans,

As was stated in a district-wide communication earlier today, the Career Center will temporarily pause in-person learning for all LCTC courses for the remainder of this week. This means all LCTC classes will switch to remote learning starting on Wednesday, April 21, and continue through Friday, April 23, with in-person resuming on Monday, April 26.

If your child attends classes at LCTC, they will attend classes remotely, following the synchronous and asynchronous learning times, much like they are currently doing with their other classes. LCTC students should be in contact with their teachers for further instruction to finish the week remotely.

As a reminder, please continue to notify a member of our administrative team if your student or someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19.

We look forward to the return of our in-person students on Monday, April 26.

  • Important Announcement from SHS Principal 4.14.21

Posted by SHS Admins on 4/14/2021 5:00:00 PM

    Good Afternoon Spartan Families,

As a follow-up to Superintendent Oquist's communication from this afternoon, a collective decision was made to pause in-person instruction at Stevenson and move to remote learning beginning tomorrow, April 15.

This pause will run through Friday, April 23. We will return to in-person instruction on Monday, April 26. The Monday return date does not apply if your child has been issued a different timeline for their return to school.

Unless your child is not well enough to attend remote class, all in-person students (including those in quarantine) will have the following remote synchronous learning times during this paused period of in-person instruction:

    • 1st / 4th Block: 8:10 – 9:10 am
    • 2nd / 5th Block: 9:55 – 10:55 am
    • 3rd / 6th Block: 12:15 – 1:15 pm
      Remote Learning Schedule

Livonia Virtual students will remain with their regular schedule.

SHS students who have a Career Center (LCTC) course and are not currently in quarantine may still attend their LCTC classes. The regular LCTC bus runs will continue from Stevenson during this time. LCTC classes will not have remote synchronous learning times during this pause of in-person instruction.

I want to thank the entire Stevenson community for your efforts, resiliency, and adaptability during this time.  All of us are working incredibly hard to ensure the health of our staff and students while maintaining a relevant, rigorous, and appropriate learning environment for all our students.

  • Important update for SHS families

Posted by LPS Administration on 4/14/2021 2:30:00 PM

Dear Parents/Guardians of Franklin and Stevenson High Schools,

As a follow-up to Friday’s message regarding COVID-19 data for positive cases and “close contact quarantines” within our schools, we are announcing a pause of in-person instruction for students who attend Franklin and Stevenson high schools (with the exception of the Franklin Transition Program). The pause will be in effect from Thursday (tomorrow) April 15 through Friday, April 23.

Ongoing, daily study of local case data and a high number of students who have tested positive or are on "close contact quarantine" at these two schools necessitate this pause. While we were hopeful that the post-spring break case numbers would sharply decline by early this week, that has not been the case at FHS and SHS (positive case data by school can be found on the FHS and SHS websites and districtwide case data is posted on the front of the district website).

Throughout this year, we have made these decisions on a school-by-school basis whenever we can, as was the case last fall with a pause at CHS and this past spring with SHS.  We take this decision very seriously and make it with the understanding that it impacts our students, staff, and families greatly when there is a change in the mode of instruction.

    A few important notes:

    • Churchill High School and the Livonia Career Technical Center, along with all other PreK, K-8, and post-secondary programs, will remain open for in-person learning at this time. We are pleased that the case numbers and related quarantines have not necessitated a pause at this time, and in-person learning can continue.

    • FHS and SHS students who attend LCTC may still do so if they are not on close contact quarantine. The bus shuttle between SHS/LCTC and FHS/LCTC will continue to run during the pause period.

    • FHS and SHS students who wish to pick up meals during the pause may do so after filling out the following form: FHS / SHS MEALS DURING PAUSE. Please fill out and submit the form prior to noon on Friday, April 16, in order to meet our Food & Nutrition Services Department ordering deadlines.

    • As shared previously, spring athletics will continue, as these activities all take place outdoors and there is a required regular testing program in place for all spring athletes, along with strict safety protocols.

Thank you, once again, for your patience and understanding as we continue to monitor the health data in our region and specifically our school district.   Your student(s) will receive further instructions from the school as they pivot to remote learning for the next number of days.  If your student is in need of assistance, please reach out to his/her counselor and if social-emotional support is needed, please call Call (734) 744-2737  or (734) 744-2SES or email and someone will be right back in touch with you.

    Sincere regards,

    Andrea Oquist, Superintendent

  • SHS Update on Masks

Posted by SHS Admins on 3/15/2021 4:00:00 PM

    Dear Spartans,

There has been an update to the District's face mask requirement, which included a ban on neck gaiters. After further research into the latest studies and recommendations from the CDC and the MDHHS, Livonia Public Schools has amended last week's requirements. Based on current research and CDC guidance, students, staff, and visitors may continue to wear a neck gaiter only if it is worn "doubled up." This means the wearer would be required to either wear two (2) gaiters over their mouth and nose, one on top of the other, or would be required to fold a single gaiter in half so double the material will cover both the mouth and nose. We apologize for any confusion.

Thanks for your understanding and continued support.

  • Important Calendar Update

Posted by LPS Academic Services on 2/28/2021 4:00:00 PM

Good Afternoon LPS Parents & Guardians,

We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a school district calendar change that will occur this spring. Our school teams are in need of professional development time to collaborate and plan for the end of the year, in order to best meet the needs of our learners in this unique year. This time will be spent learning together and reviewing student assessment results, in addition to planning and developing common assessments.

Therefore, school will not be in session on Friday, March 19 (previously scheduled as a half-day) and Friday, April 30 We thank you for your understanding, as we make this change in order for our staff to collaborate, dive into student data and plan for end-of-year assessments. Feel free to contact me or the district’s Communications Office with any questions: email or call 734-744-2522.

    Sincere regards,

    Theresa O’Brien
