Updates from Mr. Green

  • Roosevelt Elementary School End of School Year

    June 21, 2020

Good morning Roosevelt families and Happy Father's Day,

This will be my final email to you as Principal of Roosevelt Elementary School. I appreciate with all of my heart the opportunity you gave me to serve your children. Lately, I think often and wonder about my impact these past five years. As a principal, you don't get to give assessments or other tools to measure your success.  Rather your success depends on the team you have assembled and in turn the job you and your team have done in service to others.

These past five years, I hope that the Roosevelt Community felt the care and love I had for each student, that you recognized that I modeled for our students that mistakes are ok, understood I set an example that we need to be KIND to others, witnessed my belief that learning should always be fun and finally that our social interactions are always an opportunity to learn from one another. I hope I was inclusive, open-minded, consistent, and that our team was always here for our students and families. I now pass the baton on to Mrs. Shahin who is going to absolutely love being part of our community. I am excited about my new path with LPS and will always cherish my Roosevelt years.

    REPORT CARDS AND SUMMER LEARNING

Report cards are now available in Parent Connect. As a reminder, a printed copy will not be mailed home this summer.  Learning however is not over for our TIGERS! Mrs. Carty with an assist from our staff has put together some ideas to keep our kid's brains busy this summer.  See attached document!

    RETURN TO LEARN

Throughout the summer months, please track the progress and latest updates of the LPS Return to Learn Task Force by visiting www.livoniapublicschools.org/return  frequently.  This special dashboard will house all communications pertaining to the Fall 2020 school year plans.

    God Bless our Roosevelt Tigers!

  • Roosevelt Elementary School Week of June 14 2020

Posted by WILLIAM GREEN on 6/14/2020

    Good afternoon Roosevelt families,

We had a wonderful conclusion to the 2019-2020 school year on Friday. It was sentimental and wonderful to "parade clap-out" our fourth graders.  It was certainly an unusual final three months of school, but we did well!  We stuck together as a community and persevered.  I know there are many unknowns for the fall so stay tuned from me in regard to Roosevelt's future principal and from LPS on the Return to Learn plan for this fall.  You should have received an email this past Friday from Superintendent Oquist.  Please take a moment to view the linked LPS Return to Learn message.

We have posted the link on the new LPS Return to Learn Dashboard at www.livoniapublicschools.org/return. Stop by the site often for updates.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY this upcoming weekend to all Roosevelt fathers, uncles, godfathers, grandfathers, and significant male role models.  Enjoy the day and thank you for the unique and very necessary role you play in the development of a well-rounded child.  A little history about the day can be found at http://www.history.com/topics/holidays/fathers-day.

    LMC BOOKS NEEDED

We do need your help regarding LMC books.   We have many checked out and need them back for summer inventory.  Feel free to drop them off at the school on Monday between 8:00-1:00 p.m.  We will have a cart in the front of the building.

    SUMMER LEARNING

Keep those minds busy this summer! You can expect to receive a summer learning link from us prior to next weekend.

  • Roosevelt Elementary School Week of June 7 2020

Posted by WILLIAM GREEN on 6/7/2020

    Good afternoon Roosevelt families,

It is hard to believe we are in our final week of school.  I want to thank our entire community for staying connected these past few months.  Last week we had virtual MEET and GREETS with incoming Kindergarten families.  My father, who was an educator for over 40 years, noticed how lucky we are to be living in a time where despite the COVID-19 challenges we were still able to stay connected.  He said that would not have been an option during his teaching career.  While sometimes the last few months don't feel real, I appreciate being reminded of the silver linings within this stay at home order.

Instead of sending out one all-encompassing email this weekend I will be sending out many this week on a variety of topics.  I tend to find this works best at the start and end of the school year when things are busier than usual.

The primary purpose of today's email is to remind you of our student material pickup process for this week and to notify you of our 4th grade drive through CLAP OUT celebration this Friday.  Throughout the week I will give updates and reminders on other end of the year items.
