March is Reading Month!

Reading Month: It is that exciting time of year, when we celebrate the joy and love of reading in special ways…March is Reading Month! Of course, our Hoover Rockets are involved in reading and related activities each and every day. However, during this month, our committee of staff and parents work together to plan activities which engage our boys and girls in new and exciting ways! Below you will find these highlighted for you from the committee:

March 1st-  March Madness Tournament of Books:   We are excited to announce the 2022 Hoover March Madness Tournament of Books! This is a fun way to celebrate reading with your Hoover Rocket. All of the stories are available through online read-aloud sites to make it easy for everyone to listen to them! Here are the important documents to get you started:

March Madness Book Tournament website - Contains directions, a bracket form with direct links to all of the stories + new voting forms can be found here each Monday in March as the tournament progresses

Mrs Jungwirth will also explain how the tournament works during LMC next week and do one "game" with students. Round 1 starts now and goes through Sunday, March 6th. Fill out your bracket and see if you can predict the winner! Don't forget to vote for your favorites!

March 7-11th-Mrs. Linn visits Classrooms to Read

March 18th Author Assembly:   On the morning of Friday, March 18th, the authors Karen Brege and Darrin Brege will be visiting Hoover Elementary. They were the 2021 recipients of the Gwen Frostic award given by the Michigan Reading Association. Darrin Brege is the illustrator of the original artword for the Chillers Books, whick a lot of our kids read. They have presented at over 1000 schools and have been on Fox 2 Morning Show as well as interviewed on WDIV about their books.

March 25th Guest Reader Day:  Always a special event at Hoover, we have invited many noted guests from our community to share special books with classes.

Teacher Swap and Read:  Teachers will visit another classroom and read. This is a great opportunity for students to get to know other Hoover staff besides their special teachers and classroom teacher.
