STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND EARLY CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES
Classroom attendance instills a concept of self-discipline, exposes a student to group interactions with teachers and fellow students, and enables a student to hear and participate in class discussions and other related learning experiences.
With that understanding, please note that:
-
Daily attendance for students is an expectation.
-
Tardiness to class interferes with the instructional program and creates an atmosphere in which teaching and learning are restricted. A tardy may NOT be excused by a parent/guardian. Excessive tardiness will result in disciplinary action.
-
A student who is more than 15 minutes late for class will be considered absent.
STUDENT ABSENCE VERIFYING/EXCUSING PROCESS:
Only Parents/Guardians may verify/excuse a student’s absence. Students are not permitted to verify their own absences. The two methods to report all-day absences or late arrivals are:
-
Use this link to complete the Stevenson Attendance Form
-
Call SHS directly at (734) 744-2660 and follow the prompts to report an all-day absence or late arrival.
PLEASE NOTE: ABSENCES MUST BE EXCUSED/VERIFIED BY NOON THE DAY FOLLOWING THE ABSENCE.
STUDENT EARLY CHECK-OUT PROCESS:
To limit disruption in classroom instruction, any student checking out of school early must receive a pass from their Assistant Principal’s office. Students can obtain this pass in the following ways:
-
Students bring a note to their Assistant Principal’s office first thing in the morning, signed by the parent, indicating the time the student needs to be released, and if they will be returning to school that day or not.
-
A parent calls the student’s Assistant Principal’s office that morning, or at least 1.5 hrs. before the time of requested dismissal. This gives the office an appropriate amount of time to have the pass delivered to the student’s classroom during passing time by our security staff.
(We understand that circumstances sometimes arise during the school day, and the student does not have an early dismissal note. Please call the school as soon as possible so that we can get a pass to your student.)
Students are assigned to an Assistant Principal by the first letter of their last name.
Please call (734) 744-2660 and enter the extension below:
Last Name A-G: ext. 48904 (Mr. Stromberg’s Secretary)
Last Name H-O: ext. 48910 (Mr. Kotsogiannis’s Secretary)
Last Name P-Z: ext. 48913 (Ms. Abojamra’s Secretary)
At the time indicated on the check-out pass, students show the pass to their teacher to be excused from class, then they MUST sign out electronically on the computer in the main lobby or main office. Students will walk out the front entrance, where a parent is waiting in their car to pick them up.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE A CHECK-OUT PASS TO LEAVE THEIR CLASSROOM AND THE BUILDING BEFORE THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY. If a parent/guardian does NOT check a student out prior to the student leaving the building/missing class, the absence will remain unexcused.
Check Out Early - Note is preferred at the start of the day to the office or phone call 1.5 hrs prior to dismissal.
Thank you for your assistance in keeping students safe.
Sincerely,
SHS Administration
