Roosevelt Elementary School Week of January 12, 2020

January 12, 2020

Roosevelt Tigers did an amazing job last week adapting back to our school routines.  The next four months are when we really tend to see the greatest growth in student learning.  By this time of the year, there are no mysteries as to the routines of the class and school, positive and productive relationships with students and families have been established and we have plenty of achievement data on students to make mid-year teaching adjustments.  We look forward to seeing this growth and are excited about the upcoming months.

Thank you to the Roosevelt PTA and Mr. Graham for hosting our family movie night this past Friday evening.

We are excited to announce that Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 school year will begin on Monday, Feb. 3!  If you, or someone you know, have an incoming kindergartner who will be five years old by Sept. 1, 2020, please see and share the following information.

We are so excited to welcome our new class of students to LPS!

Great news ... the Roosevelt Community donated approximately 2,100 food items and 170 new toys during our hosting of the Goodfellows Food Drive and Toy Collection! The donations were distributed the week before Christmas to families in need of support. What a wonderful way to help families celebrate the holidays and begin a new year. Thanks to all who participated in the charitable event by volunteering your time to help and/or donating food and toy items to families in need during the holiday season.

Hello Roosevelt Families! Students have been working hard in PE. We have been using Tabata warm-ups to develop our muscles. Tabata training is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, featuring exercises that last four minutes. Students have been practicing their hand dribble and basketball shooting skills as well as jumping skills. 4th-grade families: Your child can ski/snowboard for free this winter at participating ski areas with the Cold is Cool Passport. Visit for more information.  Looking ahead to 2020, we will be hosting instructors from the City of Livonia golf program as well as participating in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge.

I bet everyone could use a break from cooking. Please consider supporting our PIZZA KIT sale.  Handouts went home and 371298 is our school code should you want to order online at PizzaKit.  The top seller from the building gets to shadow Mr. Green for a ½ day and be a student principal with me!  Orders are due this Wednesday, January 15.

Roosevelt Elementary School is proud to introduce two new recycling programs that will benefit the planet as well as our school.  We will be collecting dental care items and snack pouches and sending them to TerraCycle.  TerraCycle is a global enterprise dedicated to eliminating waste in our landfills and oceans.  They take items that are typically non-recyclable and work with leading companies to turn them into new products.  The more items we send, the more TerraCycle will donate to our school.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RINSE OUT HEALTHY SNACK POUCHES OR TOOTHPASTE TUBES, just make sure they are as EMPTY as possible and put the cap back on when possible.  Please see the flyers attached and look for the collection flyers sent home with your student.

Collection bins will be located in the school and recycle items can be sent to school with students.
