Roosevelt Elementary School Week of February 10 2020

Posted by WILLIAM GREEN on 2/10/2020

Good morning Roosevelt families,

Our students who attended the PTA VIP dance this Friday looked wonderful dressed up.  Thank you to all who participated in that special event.  Our Roosevelt students will have another opportunity to Dress To Impress on February 28 for our PTA Spirit Day.

This past week we had many children battling a variety of ailments.  I have reattached my letter from my past two eblasts about caring for sick children.

Mid-week you also received a correspondence from the school district about the Read By Grade Three law. The district has posted a Frequently Asked Questions summary on the websites front page,, regarding the Read By Grade Three law.   Of course, you can contact me with any questions as well.  I will be giving a brief overview of the law and what Roosevelt does to address meeting the needs of students who are falling behind in the area of reading at our Literacy Night.

  • Read the information.
  • Open and review the various attachments.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2020-2021 school year began last Monday, February 3.  If you, or someone you know, have an incoming kindergartner who will be five years old by Sept. 1, 2020, please see and share the following information.

Please note there is also a Saturday registration event at Riley Upper Elementary as well if that works better with your work schedule.

We are so excited to welcome our new class of students to LPS!

February is heart health awareness month. To celebrate, we are participating in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge. We had a fun kickoff assembly and Roosevelt has already raised nearly $2,000 in donations for the American Heart Association. Classes that have PE on Monday did their challenge last week.  Classes that have PE on Wednesday and Friday will do their challenge during the week of February 10. There is still time to sign up to be a heart hero:  Thank you for your generous donations!

The spring box top collection has started! Please send in trimmed box tops labeled with the last name of your child's teacher. You can also scan participating receipts, make sure you click on the star to give credit to your child's classroom and put in the teachers name. If you have submitted any receipts and forgot to give credit to their classroom you can go back and edit that section. The classroom that collects the most BOX TOPS will receive a special treat!

Last call for Youth Making a Difference commitment forms. Has your child done anything or is going to do anything to make the difference in the life of someone else? The activity could have taken place between April of 2019 to now. Many of our classrooms have participated as a class/grade level. Please see attached forms for more information!
