Roosevelt Elementary School Week of May 17 2020

Posted by WILLIAM GREEN on 5/17/2020

Good morning Roosevelt families,

The month of May is flying by even in this virtual world.  I hope this weekly eblast finds you and yours well.  It was very sad for us this past Thursday as we lost our Art and Music Festival for this school year.  It is one of the best events of the year as it showcases our talented Roosevelt Tigers!  In April each year, our school district also hosts a Fine Arts Festival at the Civic Center Library.  Check out this video link from Mrs. Connors that highlights the works of ART which would have appeared at our LPS Fine Arts Festival.

4th graders,  take a look below from Mrs. Plum about our Virtual Field Day!

Attention 4th Grade Students. Come up with one event/activity/station using what you have (and what most people would have) at home for our Virtual Field Day.

Send directions, pictures, videos, drawings or anything you think would explain and TEACH your event to the students at Roosevelt to me:

I will put all the events I receive by June 1 into our Virtual Field Day and share it with the school on Friday, June 5. Have Fun and be creative!

Week 4 of virtual learning continues this week!  Your child's teacher will communicate with you any changes that will take place during our shortened Memorial Day weekend vacation.  It was great visiting with our May birthday friends this past Friday.  I look forward to our June/July birthday lunch, which is scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2020.  An invite will be sent in upcoming emails from my office.

On my voyages out as the designated shopper in my family, I am proud how respectful everyone is towards one another through their care, and personal safety/health habits.

Please do not hesitate to contact our staff should you have any questions or concerns.

Using Chromebooks at home - As a reminder to your children, all district Chromebooks are monitored by software to protect students.  When a student searches or visits a website that is inappropriate in nature, the district will receive a warning with your child's name and exactly what they searched.  As a district, we will be monitoring online habits and will reach out to families if their child has violated these rules.  Remind your students to only be on websites and to only search appropriate and educationally related topics.  If your child needs a Chromebook, please email me.

We are soon starting the process of making classroom assignments for next year.  I want to remind families of the process we use at Roosevelt when forming classroom assignments for the following year. Please understand that many hours of discussion, review, and collaboration go into the creation of classes and teacher placement.  Plans for staffing and grade level teaching assignments follow a process that I would like to outline below.

  • Classroom teachers and I create class lists with input as applicable from our support staff.
  • Staff attempts to create well-balanced classrooms. Information such as students' ability levels, district-benchmark results, behavior and learning patterns, peer relations, gender, and any other special learning needs may be used when developing class lists.
  • Staffing is not finalized until school opens in the fall. This includes how many and which teachers are assigned to our school and to which grade level they will be assigned. We do make tentative staffing plans and assignments in May/June, but these are not finalized until late August.

At times, parents may want to provide additional placement input for our staff to consider.   Placement Consideration Forms are available upon request from either Mr. Green or Mrs. Pac.    All forms are due back to Mrs. Pac by Friday, June 5.  Please note placement considerations do not mean a request for a certain teacher!

The front bus loop located off Lyndon Street provides an exterior Internet access location for families that may not have access at home.  If you are looking for Internet options, click on "Internet Offers."  Our local providers have several reduced cost internet programs for our community members.

Pass the word--online registration is open for next year is open. Please click here Roosevelt Registration  to fill out the form. Once the online form is completed expect a call from our secretary, Mrs. Pac with further instructions.

PTA UPDATES REMINDERS- In case you missed this last week!

I can't begin to tell you how blessed our school has been having our current PTA Board of Tara Moeller, Amy Cashin, Deanna Busse, Jenn Weiser, and Nancy Warner. Their impact at Roosevelt will be felt for a long time!  What a great group of Board Members we have on slate for next year. Congratulations to our incoming PTA Board for the 2020-2021 school year.  Thank you to all for your service!

Roosevelt's Specials Teachers have come together to create one Google Classroom to contain all our Specials lessons.  When users click onto Classwork, families will find four topics, one for each of the special areas (Art, LMC, Music, and PE). When students click onto a special area, they will go to the information for that special area.   The code to get into the Specials Classroom is: qmghlh3

As mentioned above, this is the time of year we begin to start our preliminary staffing for the 2020-2021 school year.  If your family will not be attending Roosevelt Elementary School next year, please email Mrs. Pac at with details.
